Given the importance accorded by the Government of India to achieving SDGs, NITI Aayog decided to estimate the progress through a single measurable index that would serve as an advocacy tool and trigger action at the State level.
The SDG India Index is an aggregate measure which can be understood and used by everyone—policymakers, businesses, civil society and the general public. It has been designed to provide an aggregate assessment of the performance of all Indian States and UTs, and to help leaders and change makers evaluate their performance on social, economic and environ mental parameters. It aims to measure India and its States’ progress towards the SDGs for 2030.
The second edition of the Index, 2019, has been improved, refined and made more broad-based to cover all the 17 Goals, larger number of the global targets, with currently available data.
This edition of the Index focuses on the partnerships India has built and strengthened during its SDG efforts. The narrative throws light on how the collaborative initiatives have achieved better outcomes and larger impact.
